Receding Hair and Menopause

Receding Hair And Menopause
What is the connection between menopause and receding hair or just in general, loss of hair in women?
Menopause will cause women to go through significant hormone changes. This condition occurs as women approach middle age and they will see their estrogen levels start to fall off.
As the estrogen levels fall, the testosterone hormones in the female's body are no longer controlled. This will allow them to be converted by 5 alpha reductase to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT will then attach itself to the hair follicle preventing nutrients from getting to the hair strand and follicle. Eventually causing the hair strand to fall out and the follicle to die.
This is the same hormonal action seen in men called male pattern baldness only in women it is referred to as female pattern baldness. In men this condition can start right after puberty when they start producing testosterone.
Identifying Hair Loss From Menopause
Normally people will lose any where from 50 to 150 hair strands a day. When you have hair loss from other conditions such as that caused by menopause, the amount of hair strands lost per day is much more.
It is important to note that there are many conditions that can cause your hair to fall out. To be absolutely certain on what is causing your hair loss, visit your dermatologist.
But to help you identify if your hair loss is a result of female pattern baldness here is what you should look for:
  • Unlike male pattern baldness that causes bald spots on the scalps crown and a receding hairline, women who have female pattern baldness will see a generally thinning of hair all across their scalp. Rarely will women develop a bald patch on their scalp.
  • Because DHT is blocking hair follicles from providing nutrients to the hair strand, the hair strand will be thinner and when it falls out it will also be shorter.
Conclusion
If you are going through or are past menopause there is a good chance you have thinning or a receding hairline caused by female pattern baldness. Visit your doctor and learn about the options available to stop your hair loss from this condition.

Beautiful Long Hair Without Much Investment

Hair extensions will make me look younger, more fun and vibrant. I will look like a Hollywood star, the one who is actually good-looking. Men would want me so badly! Why not? So I did.
... And it totally worked!
I was told that I would get addicted. I thought, hey, I can work out twice a week, I have a will power! Turned out, when it came to hair extensions, I didn't. I gave in. It was easy to do. Pretty much every celebrity has been seduced. Natural-looking and reassuringly expensive, they make you appear younger (by babying-fying your face) and thinner (by out sizing your body)... I believe you have to surround yourself with beautiful things in order to become a better and more successful person. Being beautiful attracts not only men, but better jobs, better educational opportunities, better networking circles... You have to stand out in the crowd to get anywhere. Hair Extensions are surely a quick way of getting there.
Of course, there was a problem. Price.
"Men love long hair," trills my friend Jessica Mowey, 31, her golden extensions sweeping her waist. "My boyfriend loves it. My male friends are mesmerized by it. Girls are very jealous." Her colleagues don't know it's fake. An interior designer, she spends £1,200 on them every four months. "It's addictive. I'm not very curvaceous, but as soon as I had my hair long, I felt more feminine, more beautiful. This is my trademark now."
Yes, if you want to do it at a salon, you are looking at an average price of $1000 every 4 months. I did that for 3 years. You do the math.
I wish someone back then told me that there is a much less expensive alternative. It is really not that difficult to install hair extensions, especially if you have a friend who can give you a hand. Here it goes - saving you 4K a year which you are welcome to deposit into my retirement fund - DIY hair extension kits. There are quite a few of them - anything from glue, tape in, beaded (cold) extensions and all that for under $200. You can dye the hair, change your style every 4 months and all that without any harm to you own hair. I'd say give it a try!
As a hair extension virgin, be careful not to get super long hair. Be reasonable. Remember - very long hair demands a lot of attention. You will need to care for it just like you would for your own hair. So, start reasonably short and see how it goes.
One thing you can be sure about - you will look so much more feminine and sexy! Not that you are not awesome right now, but you know, there is always some space for improvement.

Armpits Hair Removal

In most cultures, women absolutely hate having hair under their armpits. Hair removal is used to ensure armpits are smooth and gorgeous when wearing cute summery tops. When it comes to removing this stubborn hair, you have several options ranging from cheap to expensive. Each one lasts a longer than the last with the most expensive actually being permanent.
Armpit Hair Meets The Razor
The most common girl hair armpit removal method is shaving. It can be done pretty much anytime. You don't have to wait until hair is a certain length as you do with waxing. The best part is it is the cheapest way to remove armpit hair. The downside is pesky irritation and short term results. Luckily, there are now razors with built in moisturizers to help reduce irritation and rashes. You can also choose electric razors which have less irritation. Moisturizing shaving creams and gels reduce irritation and ingrown hairs. Shaving typically lasts only a few days as armpit hair grows quickly.
Strip and Rip
If you want an armpit's hair removal method with longer lasting results, try waxing. This can be done professionally or at home. If doing this at home, follow all instructions carefully. Usually, armpits should have a decent length stubble for effective results otherwise the hair doesn't connect to the strip. Waxing essentially rips out hair from the root using a heated wax and strip. The process takes longer than shaving, but lasts anywhere from one to eight weeks depending on the type of wax used. The longer treatments usually cost more. Waxing is affordable, but on the downside may result in pain (during removal only) and skin irritations.
Wipe It Off
Hair removal creams are a pain free way to remove armpit hair. With razors, you may nick yourself. With waxing, you're literally ripping hair out. Hair removal creams open pores and loosen hair so you can wipe it off. Creams have varying results depending on the thickness and current length of hair. Longer hairs remove easier than shorter ones. Results can last from one to four weeks. Sensitive skin may be highly irritated by these creams. Test the cream on your inner arm first. Armpit's hair removal using creams costs about the same as short term waxing solutions.
No More Armpit Hair
If you truly want girl armpit hair gone forever, electrolysis is the answer. This method is expensive and may require several sessions depending on your skin type. Electric currents are used to completely kill the hair follicle. Sensitive skin is often irritated by this procedure. Sometimes hair does grow back after several years, resulting in another round of treatments. This mainly happens due to sudden hormone changes such as those occurring during menopause.

Hair Re-Growth Product Vs Hair Transplant

When it comes to hair restoration, we are set with various options to help remedy this concern. But there are two hair loss measures that most hair loss victims deliberate on, and that is hair re-growth products and hair transplant. So let me help you sort through the benefits and advantages that these two have.
For those who don't want to undergo those invasive procedures, a hair re-growth product would be a fitting option. They can come in the form of pills, medicated shampoos or creams. They are easier to obtain and maintain, and they have proven to be effective means.
Hair loss medications have given effective treatments, although results may take a few months. The same goes for shampoos and creams. That is why you have to religiously keep this up as a daily regimen to get desired results.
However you must be aware that there are accompanying side effects, especially with medications. And ironically enough one of those is hair loss. That is why you have to work closely with your doctor to ensure that you are getting the benefits.
But if you want to minimize side effects, there are natural hair re-growth products that you can use instead. There are products that have organic components which can be safer especially for long-term use.
Okay, so looking at the other side of the fence is the more aggressive approach to hair restoration, and that is hair transplantation. This is a surgical procedure in which it takes a strip of hair at the back of the scalp and individually remove them in order to transplant these hair grafts into the donor area, which is usually at the front of the scalp.
Hair transplant is considered by many to be the best option when it comes to restoring your hair because it provides results that are natural looking. Through the advancements in the approach in hair transplant procedures, it is already possible to give hair loss victims that permanent improvement.
Hair transplant surgeons know how to arrange and space the hair grafts strategically at a direction similar to those surrounding hairs in order to come up with excellent results. They also use high-powered microscopes in order to perform the meticulous process of hair extraction more carefully.
And today with the introduction of the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) better aesthetic results can be made possible. Compared to the traditional strip method which we have mentioned earlier, FUE doesn't have that visible linear scar at the back of the head, instead they provide tiny circular marks that can be easily concealed. With that, you can easily conceal the fact that you had some hair issues at all!
However, the downside to hair transplant is that not everyone can afford it. Of course a procedure in this nature can come a little pricey because it takes excellent expertise and time to come up with good results.
A succesful hair transplant also needs a board certified, experienced and highly skilled surgeon. That is why you should be very careful in choosing whom to trust your hair with. Remember, you don't have a luxury of hair donors, so you have to make the most out of your resources. So choose the best surgeon who can effectively restore that full head of hair at one time.

Hairstyle Tips: How to Create a Chignon

The chignon (pronounced SHIN-yawn or shin-YAWN) is a classic updo that can be worn for formal or informal occasions. A simple and elegant style, the chignon, comes from a French phrase meaning "nape of the neck." A chignon is best understood, not as a single style, but as a family of hairstyles, all characterized by the up-sweep and pinning of hair that has been gathered at the nape of the neck.
"French roll," "hair knot," and "bun" are all different names for types of chignons. Once you have learned the basics, you will discover how different accessories, products, and techniques can take your chignon from the office to the gym to a night on the town. Learn to create this gorgeous style in seven simple steps.
Steps for How to Create a Chignon
1. Start with clean, dry hair. Use a wide-toothed comb to detangle the hair and carefully remove any knots. Apply styling gel or mousse for added control if desired.
2. At this point, you may part your hair, and pull out some strands to frame your face if you so choose. Use a paddle brush to smooth the remaining hair back, and brush it into a low ponytail. Pull tightly for a cleaner, more formal look. Keep it loose and supple for a more casual appearance. Secure the ponytail with an elastic band.
3. Split the ponytail into two equal halves. Twist the two halves together to form a rope (this is also known as a double-strand twist).
4. Lift the rope up and loop it around the elastic band to form the chignon.
5. Secure the chignon to the scalp using hair pins, bobby pins and/or chopsticks.
6. Use rollers or a flat iron to curl or bump the strands at the front of your face if desired. Alternately, comb bangs and other long pieces of hair back toward the chignon and secure with pins. Add jewels, barrettes, or flowers for a decorative touch.
7. Finish with your favorite hairspray for added sheen and hold.
Random Tips and Advice
For added body, use a large curling iron or rollers to build loose curls into the hair before forming your ponytail. Also, make sure that the ponytail is not pulled too tightly to the scalp.
Soft, silky hair can be slippery and therefore difficult to secure with pins. Try backcombing or teasing the hair before styling to add texture and make the hair easier for the pins to grip.
Use two bobby pins to form a crisscross in places where an extra-firm hold is needed.
Run some styling gel through your ponytail to tame fly-aways.
Be creative when it comes to placement. Try forming a chignon off-center or higher up on your head.
There are hundreds of "twists" on the basic chignon. Try making one with a single-strand twist or several double-strand twists. Experiment with rolling and pinning part of your ponytail then looping the rest or a free-form variation using pins only. Good luck and most of all, have fun!

Tips When Doing Your Prom Hairstyles

Along with all of the excitement a certain amount of anxiety always creeps in when teenagers are faced with their upcoming prom. For a girl, this may include wondering whether someone will ask them to go. For a boy, they may worry if the girl will say yes when asked. Yet after that is out of the way, most girls begin to concentrate on things such as prom gowns, prom shoes, how they will do their makeup and prom hairstyles. For the hairstyles, you will be able to find many different sources containing hints about the different styles available.
One nice thing about hairstyles is that along with the more traditional up-dos are new ones that are constantly being created as well. You should experiment with many different styles, some that you have tried before and perhaps some that you have always wanted to try but have never had an occasion to go all out.
Remember that formal prom gowns and short prom dresses will likely call for very different hairstyles, so don't decide on your hairdo until you have the dress. If you can't afford to have your hair coiffed professionally, then look online and in magazines for ideas and try to get someone to help you do your hair. You can always add a ribbon to your hair that is the same color as your dress.
There are several different prom hairstyles that begin with a simple ponytail; for example you can put your hair up in a high ponytail and pull several strands down around your face and neck. Perhaps you can even slightly curl the wisps of hair that you pull free from the style. Or, separate a ponytail into two sections and then twist each of the sections into random knots that are pinned to the back of your head, again pulling small wisps out.
Try putting your hair into a ponytail that starts at the midsection of your head and use ribbon that matches your prom gown to weave a crisscross effect into your hair. If you decide to wear your hair in a ponytail, then use large curlers in your hair to create curl and bounce and perhaps finish it with a shine spray. For a no fuss party do, simply pull hair into two equal pony tails, either high or low, and then knot the two sections together. Use bobby pins to secure or to hide any stray hairs you don't want. Don't forget that weaving flowers, real or silk, into your hair is a great way to enhance the style with a great feminine touch.
Don't feel left out of great prom hairstyles just because your hair is short. One very trendy look is hair stencils and they actually look better on shorter hair. You can choose one that is already made or design your own for a look that you know will be completely unique. This is something that you can do by yourself, but it is usually a little easier with help. Once you have decided on the design you can choose a color that matches your prom gown or simply use a gold or silver glitter spray.
